Ashtapada Calendar
At right, the 8 x 8 ashtapada is depicted as four colored banded regions comprising 4, 12, 20, and 28 squares out of sixty-four. In turn, these four regions are determined to represent the 4 Seasons, the 12 Zodiacs, the 20 Day-signs, & the 28 Lunar mansions respectively. In this way, the ashtapada, or the Book of Changes to which it relates, acts as a timekeeping device capable of assisting its user in tracking various units of time, particularly those involving multiples of 2, 3, 5, or 7.
